I’ve been working with pregnant women and new mothers for the past 18 years as a Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga and Pilates Instructor and more recently as a Hypnobirthing Australia Practitioner and Birth and Doula.
I’ve helped thousands of women prepare their bodies for labour and birth and to regain their “pre- baby body” but it wasn’t until I gave birth to my son that I realised how important a positive mindset is during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Whilst I attribute education, tools, support and preparation to my beautiful drug- free water birth, it was my positive mindset that helped me to stay calm and trust the process.
I'd introduced breathing techniques, active birth positions, meditation and deep relaxation in my prenatal yoga classes prior to my son’s birth but I wanted to learn how to teach women to use self- hypnosis and positive mindset to release their fears around birth so became a Hypnobirthing Australia® practitioner.
I strongly believe that when we have an empowering birth experience, this sets us up for empowered and positive parenting.
So glad I joined Mamatoto Retreat! Being an anxious person by nature, Melissa's Prenatal Yoga class has helped bring a lot of calmness to my pregnancy. It’s also helped make a good bond with other Mumma’s to be. I’ve joined in on every session! And can’t wait to join the mama and Bubs classes once my little one is earthbound! 💕
Prenatal yoga classes does not scrape the surface of describing the support, care and guidance you are given by doing Prenatal Yoga at Mamatoto Retreat. The benefits you reap from having Melissa double as yoga instructor and trained doula are astounding. Melissa takes extreme care in planning her lessons and providing all the extras you need when growing a human! (Treats). Melissa is a sponge and retains any information you let her know and will always pass on a book she thinks you might like, or check in with you to see if you have healed from your aches/pains. When I first google searched for ‘yoga classes’ I did not expect to come across prenatal yoga classes like what Melissa offers at Mamatoto Retreat. I was actually quiet nervous to begin with because I had never done yoga and just moved to the area, but as soon as I walked into her yoga studio it was instantly calming and I felt comfortable straight away, plus the small intimate classes are perfect for meeting other mums to be in the area!

I’m grateful that I found Prenatal Yoga at Mamatoto Retreat. Melissa made us all feel welcome and for a first time Mum it’s been a great relaxing environment to meet and bond with other Mum’s to be. I’ve loved doing prenatal yoga at Mamatoto Retreat throughout my pregnancy. I began at 14 weeks and continued yoga throughout. I love that Mel checks in with each participant at the start of each week and really tailors the class to your needs. This was a life saver when I began to having aching ribs! I’ve loved stretching out my changing body, becoming more mindful throughout my pregnancy and learning a range of breathing techniques that I’ll be taking into the delivery suite. I did prenatal yoga & pilates with Melissa for the 2nd and 3rd trimester of my first pregnancy and I feel like it was a crucial part to us having such a beautiful, positive birth experience. I also highly recommend Melissa’s weekly prenatal yoga classes held in Milton. It gives you not only the chance to relax and enjoy some mum and bump time, but to practice breathing techniques and other skills that will be useful in pregnancy, labour and birth.
I found this course extremely useful especially for my partner who really doesn't know much about all options in the birthing process. The prenatal yoga leading up to birth was amazing, it felt like time out and special bonding time with baby all while opening up the pelvis, preparing for birth and keeping my body moving.

Who’s this class for?
Pregnant women in all trimesters, whether you’re a first time mama or a seasoned professional who wants to feel relaxed, connected and empowered during pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
When can I start classes?
If you’ve been doing yoga for a while, you can continue to do so when you fall pregnant making adjustments for your changing body. If you’re new to yoga, wait until you’ve had your 13 week scan and got the all clear from your GP or midwife to exercise.
What if I’m a Beginner?
Classes are for all levels- including complete beginners. I’ll encourage you throughout the class to listen to your body and if a pose doesn’t feel comfortable, I’ll suggest ways you can modify it so it feels good and gives you the most benefits.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your own yoga mat, pillow, journal and pen.
What do I wear?
Clothes that are stretchy, comfy and make you feel good. Layering is best in case you get hot or cold. No shoes or socks are necessary.

Can I get a refund or if I miss a class?
Unfortunately, I’m unable to refund you for any missed classes or transfer to another week so unless you’re unwell or away, do your best to come along.
