Birthing with Confidence:
A Birth Rehearsal for Couples
Understand the importance of the role of the partner and how to cultivate a space of love and support as we map and rehearse from the weeks leading up to and early labour to holding your baby in your arms through to the first 40 days after birth.
Pregnancy is physically and emotionally challenging, so supporting your partner will benefit her, your relationship and your baby.
Topics covered include:
LABOUR & BIRTH
Support during labour is key to a positive birth. The more tools you have in your toolkit to support your partner, the more confident and relaxed you’ll feel with a flow on effect to your birthing partner.
Topics covered include:
The FIRST 40 DAYS
Whilst birth is like the wedding, postpartum is like the marriage. In our culture we put so much emphasis on preparing for birth yet very little into preparing for postpartum.
Topics covered include:
“When we have an empowering birth experience, this sets us up well for empowered and positive parenting”
– Melissa Spilsted, Hypnobirthing Australia.

I CAN HELP YOU HAVE A POSITIVE AND EMPOWERING BIRTH
About MeI’ve been working with pregnant women and new mothers for the past 15 years as a Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga and Pilates Instructor and more recently as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. I’ve helped thousands of women prepare their bodies for labour and birth and to regain their “pre- baby body” but it wasn’t until I gave birth to my son that I realised how important a positive mindset is during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Whilst I attribute education, tools, support and preparation to my beautiful drug- free water birth, it was my positive mindset that helped me to stay calm and trust the process. I'd introduced breathing techniques, active birth positions, meditation and deep relaxation in my prenatal yoga classes prior to my son’s birth but I wanted to learn how to teach women to use self- hypnosis and positive mindset to release their fears around birth so became a Hypnobirthing Australia® practitioner. I cannot wait to share this incredible course with women and their birth partners and for them to have positive, empowering and beautiful births. I strongly believe that when we have an empowering birth experience, this sets us up for empowered and positive parenting.
When is the ideal time to do the Birth Rehearsal?
Anytime between 28- 40 weeks pregnant. If you’ve done any Independent Childbirth Education, this workshop is a perfect refresher and a chance to practise birth tools before your baby’s birth- day.
How can you "rehearse" for birth when it's so unpredictable?
This workshop will give your partner hands- on practical tools and techniques to use during your labour- no matter what turn your birth takes.
What if my partner can't come? Or I'm a single mum?
You’re welcome to come on your own but we recommend bringing either your doula, mother, sister, best friend – whoever you feel will best support you throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Is Birthing with Confidence only for couples who want a natural birth?
Absolutely not! We’ll discuss how your partner can support you in different scenarios such as medical induction and caesarean birth.
What should we wear?
Clothes that are stretchy, comfy and make you feel good. Layering is best in case you get hot or cold. Socks will keep your feet warm in our relaxations. Whilst chairs are available, there will be times where we’ll sit on the floor or practise some positions for labour and birth so leave your jeans and mini skirts at home.
Your question hasn't been answered?
“When a woman feels confident in her body, well supported and able to express herself without inhibition, the pain becomes just one part of the process, and something that she can respond to instinctively with resources such as breath, sound and movement”
– Sarah Buckley
